Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, is set to resign.
If a deal is reached on Gaza, the envoy is ready to complete his mission with an honorable resignation.
Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, may leave his post at the end of 2025. In particular, he will resign “with dignity” if an agreement is reached to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip. This was reported on Monday, September 29, by The Times of Israel.
According to the publication, Witkoff has been negotiating a cessation of hostilities in Gaza since the beginning of Trump’s presidency, performing the duties of a special government official. His term of office is currently about 130 days, and a possible extension will depend on the circumstances and the needs for organizing further diplomatic work.
According to a source in the US, Witkoff himself is already preparing to complete his mission by the end of the year, especially given the possible progress in resolving the conflict.
Earlier, the American leader said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to accept the latest offer spread by the United States, and an official response from Hamas representatives is currently expected.
It was also noted that the team in Witkoff’s office has begun looking for new work opportunities. If an agreement on Gaza is concluded, he is ready to complete his mission with an honorable resignation.
Earlier, Donald Trump presented a detailed plan for ending the war in Gaza, which includes the release of hostages, the transfer of territories and other key steps to resolve the situation.
Also, the US President’s special representative Witkoff said that the States seeks to achieve a settlement of Russia’s war against Ukraine by the end of the year.
